Smoothie King Celebrates a Successful 2022 with More Than 160 Development Agreements Signed and 77 Stores Opened

Entering its 50th year, Smoothie King continues to be a great smoothie franchise opportunity for entrepreneurs looking to grow within the QSR segment and that proved to be the case in 2022. With more than 160 development and area agreements signed across 24 states and 77 stores opened in 2022, Smoothie King now has more than 1,400 locations globally. More than half of the signed agreements in 2022 were with existing franchisees, who helped contribute to the company’s $618 million in systemwide sales and remain a driving force behind the brand’s continued nationwide expansion in key target markets including Albany, New York; Cleveland, Ohio; and Washington, D.C. Smoothie King’s brand has continued to resonate with small business owners and entrepreneurs across the U.S. with a simple and low labor business model and offering easily accessible meal options for the health-conscious guest.

In addition to its strong development numbers, Smoothie King added a drive-thru-only prototype in 2022 to further provide additional options for franchisees and meet the rising demand of off-premise. The compact design stands at approximately 800 square feet and features a traditional drive-thru lane on one side of the building, with a lane dedicated to online ordering and third-party delivery on the other. It also features a convenient front-facing pickup window that allows guests to have their customized smoothie hand delivered. Providing prospective franchisees with an investment opportunity that elevates the off-premise customer experience helps the brand fuel nationwide expansion, while building upon the vision to become an integral part of every health and fitness journey.

In 2023, Smoothie King will continue expanding its nationwide footprint with sights set on Baltimore, Washington D.C., Charlotte, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Denver, New York and other markets. The brand is planning to open 100 locations in 2023.
