Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
Wan Kim is global Chief Executive Officer for Smoothie King, an international smoothie brand. Wan was Smoothie King's first international franchisee, opening a store location in South Korea in 2003. Over the next five years, he launched and grew the brand to more than 130 locations in that country. In 2012, Wan approached Smoothie King's founders, Steve and Cindy Kuhnau, to purchase the company. Since then, Wan has led this 40-year-old brand on a journey to rediscover the purpose of Smoothie King and has reinvigorated the brand's mission to inspire healthy and active lifestyles worldwide. His experience as a customer, a franchisee, and now a global CEO continues to help guide his journey as Smoothie King's leader.
Chief Operating Officer
Dan Harmon has been Smoothie King's Chief Operations Officer since August of 2017. Prior to joining Smoothie King he was the SVP at Papa Murphy's in Vancouver Washington from 2013-2017. Before that he was the Division Vice President from 2012-2013. Prior to joining Papa Murphy's Mr. Harmon was with Potbelly Sandwich Works LLC in Chicago, Illinois, from October 2007 to September 2012, as Regional Director. From 2003 - 2007 Mr. Harmon was Director of Operations and Regional Director at Blockbuster Inc. and Blockbuster Canada.
Chief Financial Officer
Brian Judge has been Smoothie King's Chief Financial Officer since November 2015. Before joining Smoothie King, he was the Chief Financial Officer of Buddy's Home Furnishings in Tampa, Florida from June 2013 to October 2015. Between January 2011 and May 2013, Mr. Judge was the CFO of ABX Healthcare in Lake Mary, Florida. Prior to that, he was the Vice President, Controller of Ruth's Hospitality Group, Inc. in Winter Park, FL for five years, and previously held financial management positions at both Hasbro Inc. in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Reebok International in Canton, Massachusetts.
Chief Development Officer
Kevin has been Smoothie King's Chief Development Officer since May of 2016. Prior to joining Smoothie King he was the managing member of Project Pie, LLC in Carlsbad CA from June of 2015 to May of 2016. Mr. King was Chief Development Officer of Papa Murphy's in Vancouver Washington from 2011-2015. Before that he held senior positions in Operations and Development since 2005. Mr. King has also had senior level positions with Chase and Donatos Pizza.
Chief Marketing Officer
Jennifer Herskind has been Smoothie King's Chief Marketing Officer since July of 2017. Prior to joining Smoothie King she was VP at Gold's Gym from September 2011 to June 2017. She has a 20+ year track record of building brands and driving business results at Gold's Gym, Dave & Buster's, Nestle Waters, Pizza Hut and The UPS Stores. She has used actionable consumer insights to develop strategies across media, promotions, product marketing, CRM and pricing to influence consumer behavior.
Vice President of Product Development
Rocky is a 22 year veteran of Smoothie King through his career he has work in Store Opening, Operations, Training, Research and Development and Purchasing. In recent years Rocky has been primarily focused on R&D and Purchasing and lead both those departments. Many of our best-selling smoothies have been created by teams Rocky has lead and he has a reputation as a very tough negotiator. In addition to his duties at Smoothie King Franchises, Inc. Rocky and his wife have owned a franchise location in New Orleans for many years.
Vice President of Business Integration and Technology
Betsy Riggs has been with Smoothie King since October 2013, previously serving as the Director of Business Systems. She brings over 15 years of restaurant experience from Ruby Tuesday and T.G.I. Friday's. Her new role will allow her to utilize her experience in restaurant development, finance and IT to facilitate cross-functional process improvement, provide a frictionless order and pay process for Smoothie King guests and provide new tools to help franchisees maximize unit profitability.
Byoung Hoon (Paul) Ahn
Vice President of Finance
Paul Ahn has been Smoothie King's Vice President of Finance since he joined the company in May of 2013. He previously held the positions of CEO and CFO at ZNP Creative Co., Ltd. in Seoul, South Korea from August 2007 to February 2013. Prior to that Mr. Ahn was a Portfolio Manager in the Treasury Department of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd in South Korea from July 2002 to July 2007.
Vice President, Training and Operational Support
Katherine Meariman has been with Smoothie King for over 18 years holding positions in Accounting, Marketing, Training and Operations. Recently, Katherine's focus is on Training and Human Resources with the implementation of Smoothie King's learning management system "The Blend".
Vice President of Supply Chain
Barbara Mayrand is the Vice President of Supply Chain. She joined Smoothie King in August 2013. She has been in the Food and Beverage Industry 35 years starting out on the Operations side of the business before moving into Purchasing and Supply Chain. Barbara is experienced in virtually all aspects of Supply Chain, from Food Manufacturing, Chain Distribution, Logistics, and Quality Control. Immediately prior to Smoothie King, Barbara was the Director of Purchasing at Overhill Farms in Vernon, CA from April 2012 to August 2013. Between January 2007 to April 2012 she was the Director of Purchasing for Okami/Fuji Food Products in Santa Fe Springs, CA . Prior to that, she was the Director of Purchasing for The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Los Angeles, CA from September 1994 to September 2006. A native of Seattle, Washington who enjoys Cycling and Scuba Diving in her off time.
Vice President of Human Resources
Laura Scavone has been Smoothie King's Vice President of Human Resources since January of 2018. Laura brings diverse human resources and management experience from both the private and public sectors. She has held progressively responsible positions in Human Resources management in the construction, software, and health & fitness industries; including companies such as Core Health & Fitness and McKinstry Co. She has extensive hands-on experience leading HR initiatives focused on strengthening the link between people and strategy, as well as managing, motivating, and retaining talent. Her new role with Smoothie King will allow her to leverage her experience while supporting our brand mission and the passionate team members that share our goals.
Vice President, Controller
Roy Sundermeyer has been Smoothie King's Vice President, Controller since January 2018. Before joining Smoothie King, he was a Director in the Retail & Consumer Advisory Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Dallas, Texas from November 2015 to January 2018. Between October 2013 to October 2015 he was the Chief Financial Officer of Central Bancompany, Inc. in Jefferson City, Missouri. Prior to that, he was a Senior Manager in the Retail & Consumer Assurance Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in the St. Louis, Missouri, Florham Park, New Jersey, and Kansas City, Missouri offices. Mr. Sundermeyer holds BS - Accountancy and Master's - Accountancy degrees from the University of Missouri and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant.
Joe Lewis has been Smoothie King's Vice President and General Counsel since January of 2013 and has over 20 years of business and legal experience in franchising and the food and beverage industry. Before joining Smoothie King, Mr. Lewis was President & CEO of Sicily's Italian Buffet from March 2001 until January 2013. Mr. Lewis also served on the Board of Directors and as President & CEO of Smoothie King from June 1997 to August 2000 and Vice Present and General Counsel from March 1994 to June of 1997. Mr. Lewis has achieved the Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) designation from the International Franchise Association (IFA), and has served on the IFA Franchise Relations and Corporate Counsel committees. Prior to his corporate franchisor positions, Mr. Lewis was a practicing attorney with a concentration in franchising and business law. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) Law School. He began his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, and obtained his degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, graduating Cum Laude, with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in Finance.
